I'm a social sciences researcher based in the Nordics

I’m a researcher examining how policing, power, security, authority, and visual culture intersect to shape the fabric of everyday life. This site is an evolving sandbox where I share reflections, social commentary, theory, and class notes.

My current research draws extensively on political theory, philosophical anthropology, and critical theory, aiming to understand and critique the complex ways that cultural practices produce and sustain social realities.

Emotion as a driving force

More than a decade ago, I came across a book that decisively reshaped how I understand geopolitics. It was no longer just a realm of treaties, territorial disputes, and cold strategic calculations. Instead, the book opened my eyes to geopolitics as an emotional terrain where affect, fear, memory, and longing move nations as much as economic or military might.I found the book at a small but extraordinary event in Ljubljana called Frankfurt po Frankfurtu, literally “Frankfurt after Fran...

The Gardeners´ Political Activity

This article published in Tribuna (Slovenia) explores Onkraj Gradbišča, a grassroots urban gardening initiative in Ljubljana, as a radical spatial and political intervention into neoliberal urbanism. Situated between Kotnikova and Resljeva streets, the project exemplifies bottom-up appropriation of degraded urban land, reclaiming it as a site of communal production, ecological sustainability, and inclusive social practice. Drawing on theories of habitus (Bourdieu), political subjectivation (Rancière), and Temporary Autonomous Zones (Bey), the analysis positions Onkraj Gradbišča as a living critique of market-driven spatial logic, proposing new modes of inhabiting, reconfiguring, and politicizing space beyond capitalist ownership and state-sanctioned urban planning. Through its open structure, emphasis on diversity, and “as if…” logic of prefigurative politics, the garden functions as both a socio-political commons and a site of aesthetic resistance, where everyday life becomes a terrain for the formation of alternative identities, solidarities, and modes of being.

Reflections on the ‘Little Matchgirl’ (1845) & our perverted modern vices

She dies a silent death - an act of acceptance in the face of the nasty and brutish vicissitudes of life. Not an act of resignation. The short fictional story sends shivers down your spine and leaves a sour taste in your mouth. Her ghastly death evokes solace and redemption. Life is abruptly interrupted by sheer violence and chaos. Its tale echoes in a more modern example, the Coen Brothers’ film Fargo and the spin-off TV series: a poor, goodhearted soul, the heroine of the story, is caught in th...

The spectacle of exclusion: authoritarian tendencies and the grotesque

The symposium “Challenges for Iceland and Other Small States in Refugee Affairs,” held on April 1st in EDDA—a space symbolically tethered to the national heritage—was not a forum for rational discourse but a contextless performance of institutionalized hatred and selective ignorance. One speaker sternly warned that “the Albanian mafia charges 90 euros a month for protection.” It was unclear whether this was meant as a warning or a veiled advertisement. If organized crime—perhaps more efficient than privatized...

Police Circulate AI-Generated Fake Photo in Ongoing Investigation

In a lapse of judgment, the Reykjavík Metropolitan Police publicly apologized for distributing an AI-altered image as part of an investigation into diesel theft. The image, which inaccurately portrayed suspects, was sourced from the Facebook group Thieves in Iceland (“Þjófar á Íslandi”) where it had first appeared on July 27, posted by a dubious account ("Lóa Stína") that regularly shares anti-immigrant content. The police have since removed the image and requested media outlets to do the same o...
